Shopping habits vary widely. In the 2000s many people popped in to the supermarket three or four times a week, while others preferred to do a weekly shop. Some of this group went to weekend produce markets, like this one at Waitangi Park in Wellington, where fruit and vegetables were comparatively cheap. Many markets were sociable places, where friends met, buskers performed, and children ran around.
