Paul Kent in training, 1996

By 1996 Paul Kent was New Zealand’s champion breaststroke swimmer, having broken 37 national records. In addition, with Jon Winter, Trent Bray and Guy Callaghan, he had won gold in the 4 x 100-metre medley at the World Short Course Championships the year before.
