Auckland speedway meeting, around 1930

An assortment of midget racing cars and stripped-down vintage vehicles line up for a race at Henning's Speedway in Māngere, Auckland, the district's first speedway track. Motor-racing entrepreneur George Henning bought a harbourside farm and reclaimed a tidal basin to create this very dusty 1.25-mile (2-kilometre) circuit. It hosted races from 1923 to 1934, when speedway racing moved to Onehunga.
