Story: Weekends

Mowing the lawn, 1970 (3rd of 3)

Mowing the lawn, 1970

Shane and Carl Hollis mow the lawns – one pulling, the other pushing – in Te Atatū, Auckland, in 1970. Weekends, especially Saturdays, were the time for males and school-age children to do household chores, gardening, DIY (do-it-yourself) home repairs and building activities. For many women weekend household management was probably made more complicated by the added demands of older children and adult males.
