Te Wera Bishop signs with the Boston Red Sox, 2011

Te Wera 'Beau' Bishop, aged 17, signs a contract with the Boston Red Sox in Auckland on 9 February 2011. Previously a softball player, Bishop joined the growing number of New Zealanders, including Travis Wilson, Gus Leger and Scott Campbell, signed to Major League baseball organisations. Once signed they trained and played with feeder teams, hoping to be eventually selected to play in the Major League. By 2020, no New Zealand-born player had played in the Major League.
