John Reynolds outside his diner, 1982

John's Diner (open from 1981 to 1983) claims the mantle of being Auckland's first modern café. Proprietor John Reynolds, shown outside the diner in 1982, sold cappuccinos and inspired a new generation of cafés. In the early 2000s Reynolds was a well-known artist.
