Story: Ngāti Maniapoto

Matakore’s descendants

Matakore’s descendants

Matakore was Maniapoto’s younger brother and supported him against Te Ihingaarangi. These carvings are of two descendants of Matakore – the sisters Parehuia and Kahira Maratini. The moko on Parehuia’s chin indicates her seniority in the family.
