Nightlife boom

The arrival of United States military personnel on rest-and-recreation breaks during the Second World War brought romance into the lives of many young New Zealand women, and a boom for the owners of clubs. This is Wellington’s Majestic Cabaret crowded with US marines and their girlfriends, around 1942.
