Story: Birthdays and wedding anniversaries

Turning 100

Turning 100

Eva Carr of Dunedin is pictured on her 100th birthday in 2009, with flowers and messages, including one from the Queen. A former secretary for a real-estate company, she bought herself a laptop at the age of 99 in order to keep corresponding with friends and family. The last of four sisters, Carr never married: 'Perhaps that's why I lived to be 100.'
