Prisoners of war, including New Zealanders, hold a sports day at Stalag VIIIB, at Lamsdorf, near Teschen, Germany. The sports meeting was held on the August bank holiday in 1943. For prisoners of war, sports were important as a way of maintaining morale and passing the long periods of tedium in captivity.
