St Edmund's School boxing tournament, Dunedin, 1970

Boxing started in schools and universities in the early 1900s. It was part of the school sporting curriculum for boys only. These boys fought at the St Edmund's School boxing tournament in 1970. In the 2000s boxing was no longer offered in schools, though school-age children (including girls) could box at clubs.
