Story: Chatham Islands

Pitt Island community at Pitt Island School

Pitt Island community at Pitt Island School

The small Pitt Island community is photographed with the governor-general, Anand Satyanand (partially obscured, behind girl in checked jacket), and his wife Susan Satyanand (next to him) at the island’s school in December 2008. The families of some contemporary Pitt Islanders have farmed on or fished from Pitt Island for over 100 years.
