Story: Tongans

Queen Sālote at Auckland Diocesan School (1st of 2)

Queen Sālote at Auckland Diocesan School

Few Tongans travelled to New Zealand before the Second World War. One who did make the journey was Queen Sālote, who came to Auckland Diocesan School as a boarder in 1915, three years before she became queen. In this photo with fellow students she is seated on the far left.
