Thomas Morland Hocken in his library, 1893

Thomas Morland Hocken, a Dunedin doctor and coroner, collected books, newspapers, maps, pamphlets, photographs, pictures and artefacts from New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific. His collection was the basis of the Hocken Library, which opened in 1910. Also a keen naturalist, Hocken is seen here in his library with a botanical specimen and microscope in 1893.
