Taranaki Education Board, 1927

Members of the Taranaki Education Board – all male, as was typical at the time – pose for a formal photograph in 1927. By the 1920s some of the regional boards' responsibilities had been taken over by the central Education Department, but they still had wide powers, including the discretion to hire and fire teachers.
