School Certificate: sitting the exam

Boys of Wellington High School settle down to the three-hour School Certificate physics exam in November 1967. That year the examinations ended on 1 December, and 711 markers around the country attempted to finish marking papers by Christmas Eve in order to get results to candidates by mid-January. School Certificate exams, coming at the end of Form 5 (Year 11), often marked the conclusion of a student's school career. For many students, however, they were a preliminary to further external examinations in Forms 6 and 7 (Years 12 and 13).
