South African War veterans, 1974

These men, all in their 90s, are at the last gathering of the South African War Veterans' Association in Palmerston North in February 1974. The association had been set up in 1920, and by 1974 there were only about 30 veterans still alive. One of those who attended this gathering died after returning to his motel. The association was formally wound up in 1980.
