Shooting test for volunteers

Shooting test for volunteers

Volunteers from Otago and Southland take a shooting test to help the selection of members of the 4th Contingent. An officer in the background takes notes. Apart from the 1st Contingent, the troopers were largely untrained men who had to be judged on the basis of their shooting and riding skills, and were then given rudimentary training in camp before departure.
