New Zealanders were among the many visitors to South Africa during the 2010 Football World Cup. South Africans saw having the tournament as a chance to introduce people to their country, but there were widely held fears that venues would not be ready, or that security would be a problem. But the event, marked by the sound of vuvuzelas (a kind of trumpet used by audiences at South African events), was a great success. New Zealanders were particularly delighted by it, as the New Zealand All Whites bowed out unbeaten.
