First-past-the-post in Auckland’s 2010 mayoral race

Len Brown celebrates his victory in the October 2010 election for the position of mayor of Auckland ‘super city’. With 49.3% of the valid votes cast, Brown did not have an absolute majority. That did not matter – it was a first-past-the-post election and Brown had more votes than any other candidate.
