Governor-General Anand Satyanand performed the accolade of knighthood (better known as ‘dubbing’) of Emeritus Professor Tamati Muturangi Reedy at his investiture as a knight companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit at Hiruharama pā, Ruatōria, on 25 May 2011. The award was given for services to education. Consistent with popular belief, the ancient ritual of shoulder-tapping really is done with a sword, but no proclamation such as ‘Arise, Sir So-and-so,’ or ‘I hereby dub thee Sir Someone’ is used.
