Story: King Country region

King Country Rams

King Country Rams

Though 'King Country' has never been an official place name, it is a commonly used and understood label for this part of the country. A number of local businesses and some community and sports groups include 'King Country' in their names. In the 2000s the region's premier rugby team, the King Country Rams (the King Country Rugby Union), played in the Heartlands Championship, a competition for semi-professional provincial rugby unions. This sign is at Rugby Park in Te Kūiti.
