This sculpture of a movie camera was designed and constructed by the special-effects company Weta Digital to represent the success of the film industry in Wellington from the mid-1990s. Weta Digital has worked on many Hollywood productions and was heavily involved in the success of Peter Jackson's trilogy The lord of the rings, which was largely made in Wellington. Although most of the films made by Jackson and Weta had international settings, New Zealand landscapes and New Zealand technical expertise were central to their success. These helped to promote an image of the country as both beautiful and technologically advanced.
