Story: Flags trust trust

The trust mounted a campaign to change the New Zealand flag in 2004. The trust organised a petition with the aim of gathering enough signatures (at least 270,000) to force a citizens-initiated referendum on the topic the following year. However, only 100,000 signatures were collected. Here, campaign manager Iona Pannett is pictured with some new flag suggestions alongside the current flag in 2005. Referenda on the flag were held in 2015 and 2016.
