Signing the first contract of a state services chief executive, 1988

John Grant (third from left) is shown here at the signing of his contract as director-general of the Social Welfare Department in 1988. The State Sector Act 1988 required chief executives in the state services to hold individual employment contracts, and Grant's was the first to be signed. Also present at the signing are (from left) State Services Chief Commissioner Don Hunn, Deputy Commissioner Margaret Bazley and Commissioner David Swallow.
