Attack on mosque, 2005

Suicide bombings in London killed 56 people in July 2005. In the following days six mosques in the Auckland area had their windows smashed and walls painted with graffiti. Here Sitar Ali and Haji Tahir Mohammed clear broken glass at the Masjid Al-Mustafa mosque in Ōtāhuhu. Prime Minister Helen Clark immediately condemned the attacks, noting that New Zealand's Muslim community was overwhelmingly law-abiding and peaceful.
