Bathing of the Buddhas, Auckland, 2008

A monk in the Thai Buddhist tradition blesses followers during Thai new year celebrations in Mt Albert, Auckland, in April 2008. These celebrations included the bathing of the Buddhas, a ceremony to ritually wash images of the Buddha. This commemorates the birthday of the religion's founder, and is also believed to purify his followers of evil thoughts and encourage good actions.
