Farah Palmer of Tainui, captain of the Black Ferns national women's rugby team, holds the women's rugby World Cup, which the team won for the third consecutive time in 2006. As well as excelling on the sports field, Palmer is a university lecturer with a PhD in sociology. In 2016 she became the first woman appointed to the board of New Zealand Rugby.
