Story: Women’s health

The existence of health provision and education by Māori, for Māori, from the 1980s onwards, helped drive an increase in the number of Māori women in the health workforce, such as Enid Ratahi-Pryor, chief executive of Te Tohu o Te Ora o Ngati Awa (a Tauranga-based provider of health and social services), shown here in 2009. Despite the increase, Māori women remained under-represented in the health workforce in 2010.
