Hone Tuwhare talks to painter Ralph Hōtere (right) at a Māori writers’ and artists’ conference at Waahi marae, Huntly, in 1987. The two were close friends, and Hōtere’s illustrations enhanced the words in several of Tuwhare’s published collections.
