Waka ama

Waka ama

Te Au Rere Waka Ama Club crew, 'OCC Encore', win their heat at the Waka Ama Spring Nationals at Lake Karapiro in 2008. In the late-20th century and the early 2000s the sport of canoe racing grew rapidly, particularly waka ama (outrigger canoeing). A large number of waka ama clubs had significant Māori membership.
