Story: Gender diversity

Tom Hamilton

Tom Hamilton

Aucklander Tom Hamilton works for a community law centre and once played competitive sport at a high level. He was assigned female at birth and transitioned to live as a male while resident in the US. Hamilton's female partner still lives there with her children, but their relationship is not officially recognised in the US and they cannot live there together as a family. Hamilton believes that transgender people should be legally able to change their sex and have that documentation recognised worldwide.
