Two cars negotiate a hairpin bend known as Rocky Angle corner on the Golden Bay side of the Tākaka hill road, probably in the 1930s or 1940s. The name ‘Tākaka hill’ does not appear on official maps as it is not gazetted, but few people call the hill the Pikikirunga Range (its official name) or anything else. Golden Bay locals talk about ‘going over the hill’ to Nelson.
