Story: Gender inequalities

Women on stage

Women on stage

From colonial times women often performed on stage. These unidentified actors appeared in Sixes and sevens, a musical performed in Auckland in 1909. They appear to be a maid and master (or the son of the house). Sixes and sevens was written by New Zealander Isabel Peacocke (who went on to become a successful author) and Thomas Humphrey.
