Brian Tamaki

Brian Tamaki

Brian Tamaki is surrounded by Destiny Church pastors at his anointing as a bishop in June 2005. Tamaki is the charismatic leader of the Destiny Church, a fundamentalist pentecostal organisation which was established as City Church Auckland in a warehouse in Pakuranga in 1998. It grew quickly, especially among urban Māori. By 2010 there were some 9,000 members. The church promoted conservative moral values. In 2004 it organised the 'Enough is enough' march to Parliament, a protest against civil unions, the lowering of the drinking age and the legalisation of prostitution.
