Story: Migrant and refugee organisations

Pacific Islanders' Congregational Church, 1960s

Pacific Islanders' Congregational Church, 1960s

Members of the first Pacific Islanders' Congregational Church in New Zealand, located in Newton, central Auckland, pose on the church steps in the 1960s. The girls, in white dresses and caps, and the boys, in dark suits, are members of the church Bible class. Churches such as this one acted as community centres and support groups for Pacific Island migrants to New Zealand cities.
