Story: Genealogy and family history

Family historians at Auckland City Libraries

Family historians at Auckland City Libraries

From 2005 Auckland City Libraries held 'lock-in' events in partnership with the New Zealand Society of Genealogists. Enthusiastic family historians would arrive at 8 p.m. on a Friday night and use the library resources – microfiche readers are shown here – to search out their family histories. Pizza was delivered at midnight and the night’s work concluded at 8 a.m. Such events are a good indication of the growing interest in genealogy.
