Story: Youth offenders

Youth Court

Youth Court

A young offender interacts with the judge in the Wellington Youth Court in the presence of a uniformed Youth Aid officer, another police officer and a representative of Oranga Tamariki – Ministry for Children (back left, in the white shirt). The young man's advocate and lawyer is seated to his left, just out of the photograph. Most youth offences dealt with by the courts system are heard in the Youth Court. However, serious offences can be heard in the District Court, while murder and manslaughter cases appear in the High Court.
