This was one of four fish and oyster saloons run by Invercargill's Pasco brothers in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Oyster saloons served oysters on the shell, oyster stews, and fish and oysters cooked in different ways. Some were also fishmongers selling fresh fish. They were popular establishments in many New Zealand towns up until the 1930s.
