Welcoming the Vickers Viscount

The crew of the first Vickers Viscount jet-prop aircraft to be acquired by the National Airways Corporation (NAC) in 1958 are given a Māori welcome at Whenuapai Airport, Auckland. The jet engine revolutionised air travel, making it faster and cheaper. Jet-prop aircraft, which combined jet engines with propellers, were used for domestic routes because they were more economic.
