G20 leaders in London, 2009

The first meeting of leaders of the G20 group of nations after the outbreak of global recession in September 2008 took place in London in April 2009. Newly-elected US President Barack Obama and other world leaders issued a joint communiqué, but opinions were in fact divided as to what extent governments should pursue expansionary policies to counteract the recession.
