Kaye and Owen Pope took a stall at the Nelson market to promote the kitchen manufacturing business they were setting up at their Upper Moutere farm in the 1980s. To make ends meet, they sold home-made raspberry jam at their market stall. Soon they were selling a variety of jams and pickles to supermarkets after customers asked for their Anathoth brand. Eventually they sold Anathoth to Barkers. In 2009, the Popes were selling their new brand – Pope jam – at the Nelson market.
