
A crowd queues to register their motor vehicles in the concert chamber of Wellington town hall in 1950. None of the road safety posters on the wall are about drinking and driving. Breathalysers were introduced in 1969 and a crackdown on drink-driving achieved a measure of success in the 1970s.
