Migrant workers often bring skills and an attitude to work that enables them to advance rapidly in the workplace. Abdul Hakim Qurbanzada came to New Zealand from Afghanistan on the immigrant ship Tampa. He found work at Coupland’s bakery in Christchurch, where the managing director, Karel Adriaens, is the New Zealand-born son of Dutch migrants. He says his migrant staff have enhanced others’ knowledge, which opens up opportunities for everyone.
