John Macmillan Brown

In 1874 John Macmillan Brown was selected as professor of classics and English, one of three foundation chairs at the newly-established Canterbury College in Christchurch. He gave up teaching classics in 1879 (on the appointment of the first professor in classics) and taught history and political economy.
