Members of the 2nd New Zealand Division, Signals Corps, pay out cable during the advance at Atina, near Cassino in Italy. During the Italian campaign, the work of the Signals Corps was made substantially harder by the division’s acquisition of 150 Sherman tanks – telephone lines had to be beyond reach of tank treads – and also by a greatly improved and enlarged wireless network.
