Christchurch angler Trevor Luxton holds his 13.5-kilogram salmon, taken from the Waitaki River. Behind him the walls of the Glenavy Hotel are lined with fishing rods and trophy catches. The Waitaki, Rangitātā, Rakaia and Waimakariri rivers are the four renowned salmon fisheries in New Zealand.
