Skating rink, Carterton

Skating rink, Carterton

In the 1950s voluntary groups flourished in country towns. Some, such as Carterton’s roller-skating club, appealed to the growing number of young people, products of the post-war baby boom. The Carterton Jaycees built this rink in 1957 using over 35 tonnes of concrete and many hours of voluntary labour.
