Alfred Cockayne (far left) and Bruce Levy (centre) are generally credited with developing and encouraging the establishment of clover-based pasture as the basis of farmland development in New Zealand. They are shown here examining a trial planting of white clover at the Plant Research Station at Palmerston North, where Cockayne was director, and Levy the grassland specialist.
