The Canterbury Plains, early 2000s

The Canterbury Plains, early 2000s

By the 2000s the New Zealand landscape had been dramatically changed from its original condition. Pasture for grazing domestic animals now covers about half of the country, networks of roads traverse the landscape, and towns and cities populate each region. This highly modified landscape is the Canterbury Plains, with Rangiora in the distance. Before the arrival of humans this area was covered in forest.
